Hyper9, Inc., the leader in search-based software for managing dynamic virtual environments, today announced that Maples Investments and Managing Partner Mike Maples Jr. have made a strategic investment in Hyper9. This investment complements Hyper9
’s July 2007 Series B round of funding, which was led by Matrix Partners with follow-on from Silverton Partners.
“This backing from Maples Investments and Mike Maples Jr. comes at a time when Hyper9 has emerged from stealth mode and is adding marketing and sales functions to the company’s already significant research and product development capabilities,” said Chris Ostertag, Hyper9 president and CEO. “When you consider Maples’ track record with successful tech startups in the systems management space, it’s also a significant endorsement to Hyper9’s product and technology direction.”
A seasoned entrepreneur and technology industry veteran, Maples was involved in back-to-back business software startup to initial public offering (IPO) successes. In 1997, Maples co-founded Motive, the world’s leading broadband software company, which grew to more than $75 million in sales and was one of the only successful IPOs in 2004. Prior to Motive, Maples managed the product portfolio at Tivoli Systems from its early-stage development through its 1995 IPO and growth to a $750 million line of business within the IBM Software Group. Most recently, Maples has focused his energy on investing in startups through Maples Investments, which is involved with emerging systems management companies such as Solarwinds and Spiceworks, along with many next-generation Internet companies.
“Virtualization is the most transformative and disruptive new computing technology of the last 10 years but the management of these environments remains an unsolved problem that is rapidly intensifying. While many companies are attempting to deliver solutions, only Hyper9 has created a fundamentally different, search-driven technology that is designed from the ground-up to address the new realties and complexities,” said Mike Maples Jr., managing partner at Maples Investments. “Given the dynamics of this market, we see an opportunity to build a very large company, and I believe that Hyper9 has assembled the unique mix of differentiated technology and a seasoned management team to make this a reality.”
In June, Hyper9 unveiled its search-based platform for managing the dynamic nature of virtual environments. Hyper9 leverages a “Google-like” search engine to access both real-time and historical data on everything from the guest operating system to the physical infrastructure then presents that data via a next-generation user interface. As a result, Hyper9 supports faster troubleshooting, comprehensive monitoring and detailed reporting on the performance, configuration and utilization of virtual environments.
