TRANGO Hypervisor Now Supports Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0

TRANGO Virtual Processors, the leading provider of embedded virtualization IP, announces that it now supports Windows Embedded CE 6.0. By combining the rich features of the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 kernel with the TRANGO Hypervisor's ability to create separate and highly secure execution environments, designers and developers can now provide the rich user experience that customers want, with the security that enterprise-grade applications demand.

Virtualization is a software technology that allows developers to create multiple simultaneous execution environments. In practical terms that means that application software executing within each environment behaves as though it is the sole owner and proprietor of the SoC, when, in fact, execution is occurring on a virtual representation of the underlying hardware.

Running in their own secure execution environments, isolated and protected from the rich and open environment, business-critical applications such as DRM, payment, and enterprise applications execute as though they are running on their own dedicated CPU, thus allowing the safe deployment of a wide variety of valued added services. A key benefit is the ability to certify a business-critical application and its attendant hardware independently from Windows Embedded CE 6.0, enabling large validation and certification cost savings.

"In designing today's smart, connected devices, choices must often be made concerning hardware, software, and the functionality that will be implemented. Some choices will inevitably conflict with others, either from a resource standpoint or from the standpoint of acceptable security," stated Pierre Coulombeau, Chief Operating Officer at TRANGO Virtual Processors. "With the TRANGO Hypervisor, customers benefit from the built-in security that virtualization provides, and the rich user experience and broad ecosystem of Windows Embedded CE 6.0."

"The TRANGO Hypervisor helps fuel the development of compelling solutions for the fast-evolving market for service-oriented devices," Ilya Bukshteyn, director of marketing, Windows Embedded Business, Microsoft Corp. "We are delighted to work with one of the leading providers of secure embedded virtualization, as security is a critical consideration for customers who wish to integrate richer features into their new connected devices."

TRANGO Virtual Processors demonstrated a highly secure Windows Embedded CE 6.0 environment running simultaneously with a real-time OS on a TI OMAP 3430 at Expo Comm Wireless Japan two weeks ago.

The TRANGO Hypervisor is available immediately on the ARMv5/ARMv6/ARMv7 and MIPS32/MIPS64 embedded architectures, in both single and multi-core variants. It supports a broad choice of operating systems and is shipped with a complete SDK and Eclipse-based tools suite.
